The Penn Yan Rotary Club was pleased to honor a Penn Yan Middle School and a Penn Yan High School Student of the Month Tuesday, Jan. 15. For every month of each school year the club honors an outstanding middle school and high school student who each demonstrate The Rotary Four-Way Test, which values truth, fairness, and beneficial actions which build goodwill and friendships.
Charlotte Poblete, a seventh-grader at Penn Yan Middle School, was selected by her reading teacher, Melissa Lamphier, who told the Rotarians she was pleased to nominate Charlotte because of her actions as a positive, hard-working, and helpful student. Both she and Meghan Trombley, the school counselor, added that Charlotte serves as a positive role model for her peers and also demonstrates her can-do spirit as a member of the drama club, cross-country team, and the volunteer club. Charlotte was pleased to have her mother, Rosann, and her little sister, Gabi, join her for her award presentation.
Rielly Stewart, a senior at Penn Yan High School, was selected by her science teacher, Jonathan Pragle, who is especially pleased with her hard work in researching and investigating the interaction between local tourism and our local environment, which she demonstrated in a recent, well-organized presentation. And we were all pleased to learn that her environmental science class this year will be earning her college credit through Tompkins County Community College, where she has been accepted and will be enrolled next year. Rielly was joined by her proud father, Jeff, for her award presentation.
Charlotte and Rielly each received a framed certificate and a $25 gift card from Long’s Cards and Books.
This Student of the Month program is presented and sponsored by the Penn Yan Rotary Club and made possible with the support of Community Bank, Five Star Bank, Bank of the Fingerlakes, and Lyons National Bank.
