Soil Health Workshop

A Soil Health Workshop will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 7 at King’s Catering, 4031 State Route 5 & 20, Canandaigua. Keynote speaker will be Jim Hershey, who will discuss “Managing For Healthier Soils and Cleaner Water.” Other speakers include Dr. Eric Young, USDA Agriculture Research Service who will discuss water quality in tile-drained fields and implications for soil health; Karl Czymmek, of Cornell PRODAIRY, who will speak about Soil Resilience; Klaas Martens of Lakeview Organic Grain, who will discuss cover crops and pest management in an organic system. A DEC approved manure applicator training will be held at 2 p.m. Pre-registration $20 at Canandaigua Lake Watershed Association www.canandaigualakeassoc.org.

Baby Café

Baby Café will be held from 9:30 to 11 a.m. March 7 at Penn Yan Public Library, 214 Main St. Penn Yan. Do you have questions about pregnancy, breastfeeding, and/or parenting? Lactation Counselors are available to help you at Baby Café! This is a free drop-in for all families and older siblings are welcome (childcare not provided). Story time: Rainbows

Rainbows will be the subject of Story time at 10:30 a.m. March 7 at Dundee Library, 32 Water St., Dundee. The approaching spring will bring rain and best of all rainbows! We’ll celebrate color, the science behind rainbows and rainbow lore!

Lenten Luncheon

The Lenten Luncheon at noon March 7 will be held at the First Baptist Church, 224 Main St., Penn Yan. Paul Malles of the First Presbyterian Church will be the speaker. The meal is scalloped potatoes with ham, California blend veggies, roll and fruit cup. First Presbyterian Church members will be the servers. Meals are being prepared by the Wagner Restaurant with area churches providing the desserts. $7 per person

History of Willard Asylum

“A History of the Willard Asylum for the Insane” will be shown for the Throwback Thursday DVD showing at noon March 7 at the L. Caroline Underwood Museum, 107 Chapel St. Penn Yan. Seneca County Historian Walt Gable gives an interesting look at the immense and progressive facility. No reservations are needed. The showing is free of charge but donations are gratefully accepted. Knit n Chat

Knit n Chat will be held at 2 p.m. March 7 at Dundee Library, 32 Water St., Dundee. Bring your works-in-progress, or unfinished objects, and share some laughs with old and new friends 

Voter Information

Representatives from the Yates County Republican Committee and Yates County Democratic Committees will be at St Mark’s Terrace in Penn Yan from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 7 to provide information on voter registration and absentee ballots for the June Primary. Petitions for some candidates will be available for signatures. The public is welcome to stop in at St Mark’s and learn about the changes in the election process.

Friends of the Library

Friends of the Penn Yan Public Library Annual Meeting will be at 4 p.m. Thursday, March 7 at the PYPL, 214 Main St. Penn Yan. Following a brief business meeting, Rich MacAlpine will present a talk on The Penn Yan, Keuka Park, Branchport, Trolley. Everyone is invited and encouraged to bring a friend.
