Penn Yan residents and property owners now have a new option for composting leaves, grass, and plant material, including brush no more than 3” in diameter.
No building materials, electronics, tires or metals of any type will be accepted.
The materials can be taken to the composting area at 30 Elmwood Ave., near the village’s sewage treatment plant. Residents can purchase a Composting Ticket for $10 that permits 10 trips to the site. Tickets are sold at the village hall, 111 Elm St., Penn Yan. The village also offers fees based on pickup loads ($5 per load for brush; $2 for leaves; grasses; and garden materials).
The composting site is open from 9 a.m. to noon Saturdays and 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays between April 13 and May 25. From June 1 to Nov. 2, the hours of operation will be from 9 a.m. to noon Saturdays only.
Only residents and property owners in the village are permitted to use the site. Those using the site may be asked for proof of residency.
This does not replace curbside pick up of brush in the spring or leaves in the autumn.
