The snow is melting, the sun is coming out, and the Penn Yan Community Garden is now accepting member applications for the 2019 growing season.

Located at the end of Pleasant Avenue off of South Avenue in the village, the Community Garden is a hidden, quiet gem not far from downtown. Every year, neighbors and friends grow vegetables, herbs, and flowers. On a visit to the garden, you might spot common plants like tomatoes and peppers, as well as exotics like artichokes and popcorn. Gardeners of all experience levels are welcome to learn and grow together. An annual Garden Membership is $25, and each membership entitles the gardener to one 4-foot by 10-foot raised garden plot, compost, water supply, access to tool shed and garden tools, fencing, and use of a dedicated member parking lot.

In warm weather, the Garden often hosts outdoor storytimes from Penn Yan Public Library, and even the occasional cooking class or potluck meal.

Member applications can be downloaded from the Garden’s website at Completed member applications should be mailed to Penn Yan Community Garden, P.O. Box 616, Penn Yan, NY 14527; or to Cornell Cooperative Extension, 417 Liberty Street, Penn Yan 14527 Attn: Cheryl Flynn.
