Walter J. McCullough, age 82, of Dundee currently of Penn Yan, died suddenly Thursday April 11, 2019 at the Penn Yan Manor Nursing Home, in Penn Yan

Honoring his wishes there are no prior calling hours. A memorial mass will celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday April 27, at St Michael's Catholic Church, 312 Liberty St., Penn Yan with Father Leo Reinhardt officiating.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Cobblestone Springs, 4306 Lakemont-Himrod Rd., Dundee, N.Y. 14837, or to the Penn Yan Manor, 655 N. Liberty St., Penn Yan, N.Y. 14527.

Walter was born July 28, 1936 in the Bronx, the son of the late John and Katherine (Monahan) McCullough.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1959-1962. On October 7, 1967 in Passaic, N.J. he married the former Judith L. Maciag. Walter worked for the Englewood, N.J. Fire Dept. for eight years before they moved to Houston, Texas; where he became a welder and pipe fitter in the gas and oil industry. Over the next 27 years he worked for various oil companies, including BMI, retiring in 1994.

They have lived locally since 2001. Mr. McCullough was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, and the Knights of Columbus. In his spare time he enjoyed being a handyman and expert painter and interior decorator; he enjoyed football and was a dedicated “ NY Yankee fan.” He also loved travelling the country, and down hill skiing.

He is loved and will be dearly missed by his wife of 51 years, Judy McCullough at home; a sister Margaret Morris of Vero Beach, Fla.; a dear sister-in-law Phyllis Maciag with whom he shared his home; and many loving in-laws, and cousins on his wife’s side of the family.

He was pre-deceased by three brothers, Myles, Bernard, and Edward McCullough.
