Yates County Sheriff Ron Spike announces the release of an iPhone and Android public safety mobile app which is available as a free download from the app stores in recognition of N.Y.S. Sheriffs’ Week and the proclamation by the Governor and the Yates County Legislature.

The new app will help Yates County citizens stay tuned to important information from the sheriff’s resources.

This app includes two important integrations: Offender Watch and Appriss Safety. Through the Sex Offender feature, provided by Offender Watch, users can search by name or location or view a map to see sex offenders across Yates County. Search for inmates in the Yates County Correctional Facility, under the Inmate Information feature. The Inmate Search, provided by Appriss Safety, allows concerned citizens to check on an inmate’s custody status and to easily sign up for change of status notifications.

Submit a Tip, a form that enables you to submit a crime tip, is another of the app’s key features. Tips - sent anonymously or with the sender’s contact information along with photos - is confidential. App users are invited to submit tips regarding ongoing investigations, however, you should call 911 in the case of an emergency.

Scroll through the list of Yates County’s Most Wanted fugitives; photos, details, and offenses are listed.

If you encounter any of these fugitives, do not attempt to apprehend them. Instead, use the app’s “Submit a Tip” feature to send tips to the sheriff’s office.

In addition to the Inmate Search, the app’s Inmate Information section includes information on the Yates County Correctional Facility, visitation hours, and rules, bail payments, and online commissary account deposits.

Other important features include Press Releases, Cold Cases, Programs & Services, and Recruitment & Employment.

Read and share social media posts from the Yates Co. Sheriff’s Office via the Facebook and Twitter news.

To engage the greater community in public safety, anyone with the app can use the “Share our App” feature under “Settings.” You can also forward any alerts or posts to friends, family, and neighbors.

“This app allows us to deliver up to date information in a timely fashion to those who are most important to us, the citizens of Yates County, said Spike. “You will now have the ability to have information related to cold cases, most wanted, our jail, programs and services we offer, training, victim notifications, submit a tip, and many more features, all in one place, right at your fingertips, and best of all, at no cost to you.”

To download the app, search “Yates County Sheriff” in the App Store or Google Play.

“The Yates County Sheriff’s Office mobile app is created by TheSheriffApp.com, a division of OCV, LLC, which specializes in mobile app development for sheriff’s offices, police and fire departments, and government agencies,” said F/Sgt.
