Tuesday, Nov. 12, Penn Yan Academy held the 26th annual Academic Excellence Day. 

This year 75 students were recognized for achieving a Grade Point Average of 90 or better during the 2018–2019 school year. There were 35 letters, 20 pins, and 20 plaques awarded.

Letter recipients have earned a 90 or better G.P.A. for one year, pin recipients for two years, and plaque recipients for three years. The evening began with a reception for the recipients and their families followed by an awards program in the auditorium.

Mayor Leigh MacKerchar read a proclamation designating Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2019 as Academic Excellence Day in the Village of Penn Yan. Congratulatory remarks were made by the Board of Education President Mr. David Willson and Superintendent Howard Dennis.

The keynote speaker for the occasion was Dr. Jonathan Bloom. Mr. Dennis and Dr. Bloom presented the recipients with their awards.

The Academic Excellence Day Program is sponsored by the Penn Yan Education Association & the Penn Yan School District.

Academic Excellence Day coincides yearly with American Education Week.
