YATES COUNTY— County and town tax bills are arriving in mailboxes in the annual effort to collect funds to provide the county and nine town government services.


County tax


The county portion of the tax bills pay the local costs for the 2020 $46 million budget.


The towns of Jerusalem, at $5.14 million and Milo, at $3.51 million, contribute the largest share of the county tax levy and Jerusalem has the highest county tax rate at $6.46 per $1,000 of assessed value while Milo’s rate is $6.18 per $1,000.


With more than $795 million in assessed value, Jerusalem accounts for nearly 1/3 of the county’s taxable assessed value while Milo contributes more than 20% of the total county tax levy for its $567 million in property value.


Towns


Here is the breakdown by townships:


Barrington: Assessed value: $278.4 million; share of county levy: $1.7 million (10%); $6.31 county tax rate plus $3.34 town tax rate. Additional taxes are levied for the Dundee, Wayne, and Penn Yan Fire Districts.


Benton: Assessed value: $218.6 million; share of county levy: $1.3 million (8%); $6.18 county tax rate plus town rates of $2.29 inside Penn Yan and $4.07 outside Penn Yan; Additional taxes are levied for Benton, Bellona, Penn Yan, and West Lake Road Fire Districts and Kashong and Bellona Water Districts.


Italy: Assessed value: $97.7 million; share of county levy: $585,506 (3.5%; $6.30 county tax rate plus $7.80 town tax rate. Additional taxes are levied for Middlesex, Naples, and Prattsburgh Fire Districts.


Jerusalem: Assessed value $795.4 million; share of county levy: $5 million (30%); $6.46 county tax rate plus $0.67 town tax rate inside Penn Yan and $2.14 outside Penn Yan. Additional taxes are levied for Branchport/Keuka Park Fire District, Branchport Light District, and the consolidated water district.


Middlesex: Assessed value: $198.7 million; share of county levy: $1.2 million (7.5%); $6.46 county tax rate plus $5.70 town rate. Additional taxes levied for Middlesex Ambulance, Middlesex Fire, Middlesex Light District, and Middlesex Water District.


Milo: Assessed value: $567.3 million; share of county levy: $3.4 million (21%); $6.17 county tax rate plus $1.43 town tax rate inside Penn Yan and $2.59 outside Penn Yan. Additional taxes are levied for Penn Yan and Himrod Fire Districts; Himrod and Milo Water Districts and Milo Sewer District.


Potter: Assessed value: $107 million; share of county levy: $641,626 (3.9%); $6.22 county tax rate plus $4.50 town tax rate inside Rushville and $7.44 outside Rushville. Additional taxes levied for Potter Fire District and Middlesex Ambulance.


Starkey: Assessed value: $252.1 million; share of county levy: $1.5 million (9.3%); $6.36 county tax rate plus $1.82 town tax rate inside Dundee and $3.43 outside Dundee. Additional taxes levied for Starkey Fire Protection.


Torrey: Assessed value: $188.3 million; share of county levy: $1.13 million (6.8%); $6.17 county tax rate plus $2.38 town tax rate inside Dresden and $2.87 outside Dresden. Additional taxes levied for Torrey Fire Protection District.
