It should be noted that these reports merely indicate that someone has been charged with an offense, and the use of the term “arrest” does not always mean someone was put in jail. These reports do not indicate guilt. 

A one-car accident occurred May 12 at the intersection of South Vine Valley and South Lake Road in Middlesex. Taylor D. MacDonough, 23, of Tuscany Lane, Middlesex, failed to stop for a stop sign on South Vine Valley, crossed South Lake, struck the ditch, crossed a lawn, and struck a building. Yates County Sheriff’s Deputies, Middlesex Fire & Ambulance, Rushville Fire Dept., and Medic 55 responded. She was treated at the scene for knee pain, and was released with a ticket for failure to stop at a stop sign.

Ashley N. Dunton, 31, of Lincoln Ave., Penn Yan, was ticketed May 12 by Penn Yan Police for driving while her registration was suspended for insurance lapse.

Jeremy T. Yawger, 43, of Hammondsport, was ticketed May 12 by Penn Yan Police for driving while his registration was suspended for insurance lapse.

Ryan R. Jacobs, 25, of Freeman Hollow Road, Bath, was ticketed May 12 by Penn Yan Police for driving while his registration was suspended for insurance lapse.

Jessica C. Morse, 34, of Walnut Hill, Penn Yan, was ticketed May 12 by Penn Yan Police for driving while her license was suspended. She was charged with 3rd degree aggravated unlicensed operation (AUO), and was released with an appearance ticket for Penn Yan Village Court. 

Frank J. Adams, 47, of Urbana, was arrested May 12 by N.Y. State Troopers in Campbell for violating a court order of protection. He was charged with 2nd degree criminal contempt and released with an appearance ticket for Campbell Town Court. 

A one-car rollover accident occurred May 12 at the intersection of Havens Corners and Pre-Emption Road in Benton. Yates County Sheriff’s Deputies responded with Benton Fire Department, Penn Yan Ambulance, and Medic 55. Lisa M. Taylor, 43, of Pulteney St., Geneva, was driving east on Havens Corners when she failed to stop at the stop sign. The vehicle crossed over Pre-Emption, striking bottom on the road crown, causing Taylor to lose control, going off the road and through a lawn, striking a tree and overturning into the ditch. Taylor was taken to Geneva General Hospital for treatment of a neck injury. She was charged with unlicensed operation, failure to stop at stop sign, and moving from lane unsafely. 

Ahmed Saleh, 30, of Rochester, was arrested May 12 by State Troopers after investigation of a larceny that was reported Feb. 14 in Middlesex. He was charged with felony 3rd degree grand larceny, and was held for arraignment.

Brandon L. Newsome, 36, of Benham St., Penn Yan, was arrested May 13 by Penn Yan Police after being stopped for riding a moped without a helmet. A license check showed his to be under three suspensions and revocations for DWI, refusal of a breath test, and failure to pay a fine. He was charged with 2nd degree AUO, driving without a court ordered alcohol ignition interlock device, failing to keep right, moving from lane unsafely, driving without insurance, unregistered moped, driving without a helmet or goggles, failure to notify DMV of an address change, and refusal of a pre-screen breath test. He was released with appearance tickets for village court.

Matthew E. Scotchmer, 36, of Dundee, was arrested May 13 by State Troopers after investigation of drug sales reported May 3 in Bath. He was charged with felony 5th degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and 7th degree criminal possession as a misdemeanor. He was released with appearance tickets for Bath Town Court.

Jared L. Ryan, 28, of Dundee, was arrested at 6:49 a.m. May 14 by State Troopers for drunk driving on Whitehead Hill Road in Wayne. He was charged with common law DWI and DWI with a .08% BAC or greater as misdemeanors, and was later released with appearance tickets.

A two-car accident occurred May 14 in a Benton Center parking lot on Rte. 14A. Yates County Sheriff’s Deputies report Cheryl Maslyn, 62, of Seneca Falls, was backing out of a parking place and side-swiped a vehicle driven by Candice L. Wilcox, 51, with passenger Kirk W. Dinger, 56, both of Garfield Ave., Penn Yan. Benton and Bellona Fire Depts., Penn Yan Ambulance Corps, and Medic 55 were also called to the scene. Wilcox was taken to Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital complaining of neck and back pain. No tickets were issued.

John J. Slack, 34, of West Lake Road, Penn Yan, was arrested at 2:12 a.m. May 15 by Yates County Sheriff’s Deputies after being stopped for an infraction on East Valley Road. A license check showed his to be under 25 suspensions, including 22 scofflaw suspensions on 11 separate dates. Slack was charged with felony 1st degree AUO, and was held at the county jail to await arraignment.

Penn Yan Police and Fire Dept. were called to a reported house fire at 7:03 a.m. May 16 at 130 Benham St. Smoke was visible coming from the house’s electric service connection. Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire and limit damage to the breaker panel and basement. Penn Yan Ambulance, Himrod Fire Dept., and Penn Yan Municipal Electric crews assisted at the scene.

Jacqueline R. Van-wert, 39, of Highland Dr., Dundee, was charged by Yates County Sheriff’s Deputies with violating the village’s noise ordinance May 16 after 13 complaints had been registered since April 28. She will answer in Starkey Town Court.

Yates County Deputies report Ethan C. Bailey, 28, of Dundee, was injured May 16 as he was working on a riding lawn mower at the home of William J. Clark, 48, of Rte. 14, Penn Yan. Bailey was under the mower replacing a belt when the mower fell off the lift, striking him in the head. Clark managed to move the mower off Bailey’s head, called 911, and stemmed the bleeding until EMS arrived. Dresden and Himrod Fire Depts., Penn Yan Ambulance Corps, Medic 55, and Car One responded. Bailey was taken to Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital for treatment of his injuries.

Angel L. Vasquez, 59, of Penn Yan, was arrested May 16 by Penn Yan Police following a domestic incident where he allegedly threw another person to the ground and struck them several times, causing injury. He was charged with 3rd degree assault and 2nd degree harassment, processed at PYPD, and held at the county jail to await arraignment.

Jeffrey A. McClain Jr., 32, of Main St., Dundee, was arrested May 16 by Yates County Deputies following a domestic incident where he allegedly struck and shoved a female within close proximity of an infant. He was charged with child endangerment, 2nd degree harassment, and 2nd degree unlawful possession of marijuana, and held at the county jail to await arraignment.

Patrick J. Brown, 40, of Penn Yan, was arrested May 17 by Penn Yan Police investigating a reported lost wallet. Officers questioned Brown and ultimately found the wallet in his possession, containing cash, and ID card, a debit card, and other property not belonging to him. He was charged with 4th degree criminal possession of stolen property, 4th degree grand larceny, and petit larceny, and was released with appearance tickets for village court.

Two teens were arrested at 1:01 a.m. May 18 by Penn Yan Police after they were found smoking marijuana in a vehicle. Brandon M. Hamilton, 18, of Canandaigua, and Michelle L. Conner, 19, of Himrod, were both charged with 2nd degree unlawful possession of marijuana, and were released with appearance tickets for village court later.
