The Chronicle-Express is asking area senior athletes to share their thoughts after losing their final season to the coronavirus pandemic.

Section V sports have taught me so much over the years, from modified to varsity. I was able to make connections with my classmates and community that I otherwise would have missed. I have also learned how and where to devote my time to be able to continue to do the activities I love to do. There are so many opportunities at Penn Yan Academy to be involved in as long as you know how to divide your time. My participation in the Section V Athletic program definitely taught me this skill as well as helped me realize the importance of getting involved.

The loss of this softball season has been difficult, especially as I think back to the unexpected last game I will ever play for Penn Yan Academy in Section V. That has honestly been the hardest part about this pandemic in general, as I think about never getting the opportunity to officially say goodbye to the people who have done so much for me or to represent PYA knowing that it would be my final time doing so. Overall, I am very grateful for the experiences I was able to have and the memories I have made, regardless of how long it lasted or how it has ended. Thank you to all of the coaches, officials, teammates, families, and community members that have made my time in Section V athletics possible.
