Mr. Paul W. “Billy” Walborn, longtime resident of Ovid, died peacefully Monday, March 20, 2017 at the age of 86, while at the Penn Yan Manor, following a brief hospitalization.
A Memorial Service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, March 25 at the Ovid Federated Church. There will be a time of fellowship afterwards in the church’s fellowship hall, all are welcome to attend and celebrate Paul’s life. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Ovid Federated Church or the Penn Yan Manor, patient activities fund. Paul was born in Romulus on June 5, 1930, one of 10 children to Howard and Edna (Updyke) Walborn. He graduated from Romulus High School, and worked on the wards of Willard State Hosptial. By luck, he had the chance to apprenitice with a retiring barber at Willard. He then opened the Paul Walborn Barber Shop in Ovid, where he continuted to maintain his own shop for 62 years, retiring only recenlty. Paul was always aware of the activities of the community and found time to spend with his family and friends. He was an avid card player and sports fan. In addition, he and Kareen were active members of the Ovid Federated Church.
Paul is survived by his children, Paul Walborn Jr. of Port Byron, Linda (Floyd) Bush of Seneca Falls, Mary (Lee) Henry of Penn Yan and Mark (Tamara) Walborn of Sevierville, Tenn.; their grandchildren, Joshua, MacKenzie, Cari, Sean, Shane, Heather, Andrea, Amanda, Laura, Joel, Hadleigh, Hayden and Melanie; great-grandchildren, Kendra, Kayle, Christian, Christopher, Nathan, Willow, Owen, Irelynn, Abel, Marcus, Mellakii, Sofia, and Dayton; his brothers, Gary, Glenn (Eileen), Ralph (Juanita) Walborn and many nieces and nephews; many friends through his years as a barber, church member and active resident of St. Mark’s Terrace in Penn Yan. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 47 years, Kareen in 2015, and by his brothers, James, George “Joe”, Richard “Red,” Norman “Hopper” and Kenneth Walborn and by a sister, Margaret “Maggie” Malone.
