Denise Marie Potts passed away at her home on November 20, 2017 while surrounded by her family.

She battled her cancer with tremendous strength and courage, right up until the very end. Her soulmate, Delbert Woodard, was truly her “rock.” As her main caregiver, he was a steady source of comfort and compassion.

The memorial service for Denny will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 29 at the Branchport United Methodist Church, with a reception to follow in the church hall. Denny asked that her August benefit serve as her calling hours. She greatly appreciated being able to talk to so many that day and thank them personally for their friendship and support. Denny will be laid to rest in the Pulteney cemetery with her mom. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Denny’s memory to Yates County Humane Society or the Sands Cancer Center at FF Thompson in Canandaigua.

Denny was born January 19, 1965 in Penn Yan, and graduated from Penn Yan Academy in 1983.

She spent many happy years on Crescent Beach at her grandma’s house on Keuka Lake. Denny was a friend to many! Her entire life was rich with close friendships that she cherished greatly. She was the Godmother of Robbie Wigsten and Rachael, Derek and Mariah Chisom, all of whom she helped to raise, and she genuinely loved them like her own. Denny was also very grateful for the precious support she received from her dear sisters; Lorianne, Karin and Kathleen.

Denny worked as a waitress in various local restaurants for a number of years including Holly’s Red Rooster and The Wagner Restaurant. She easily made connections with all her customers, always lending an ear, and even holding babies so parents could eat their meals. Her speed and efficiency as a server was quite impressive, not to mention her ability to carry a dozen plates on her forearms at once.

For many years, Denny enjoyed bowling on a league and playing softball. She was also a member of the Penn Yan Moose Club. At home, she liked to spend time with her dogs, do jigsaw puzzles, watch movies, and play backgammon.

Denny is survived by Del Woodard, dogs Buddy and Maggie, father Marvin Potts, sisters Lorianne Potts (Jim) Krise, Karin Potts and Kathleen (Jerry) Hansen; niece Carrie Potts-Porter; and favorite Aunt Linda Goodman (Bob) Blauers. Also surviving are several close friends, Sue Baker, Sue Chisom, Katy Wigsten, Jen Sherman, and cousins.

She was predeceased by her mother, Patricia Potts; her beloved pitbull Abby; her four-legged family, Sugar Nugget and Maddie, her grandparents, Perry and Eleanor Goodman, Marie and Wescott Potts; step-grandmother Alma Goodman; and her uncles James Goodman and Mallory Potts.
