Ethel Lee Tears, 94, died July 19, 2018 under the care of Ontario Yates Hospice at The Homestead of Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital, Penn Yan, where she had lived for six years.

Her calling hour will be at 9 a.m. Aug. 2 at the Townsend-Wood Funeral Home with funeral to follow at 10 a.m. The Rev. Jeff Childs, of the Penn Yan United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will follow at Lakeview Cemetery in Penn Yan.

Ethel was born Nov. 18, 1923, the daughter of Ray W. and Frances Root Lee (of Ray Lee Garage.)

Her husband, Earl Edward Tears, died in 2000.

Ethel was a proud member of the widely-extended family of Barnard and Mary Holiday Gelder, who immigrated to the US from Yorkshire, England in 1832. She kept careful records of the Gelder family genealogy and photos, and is donating them to the Yates County Historical Center at the Oliver House, Chapel St., Penn Yan.
