Donna Marie Hansen, formerly of Penn Yan, passed away peacefully Saturday, September 29, 2018, at the E. T. York Haven Hospice Center in Gainesville, Fla.
A Celebration of Life gathering will be held in Melrose, Fla. at her home for family and friends on Sunday, Nov. 11, 2018.
She lived in Melrose, Fla. for nearly 15 years near her daughter.
Donna was born July 5, 1942, in Geneva, and was the daughter of Hans Borge Hansen and Nina Jane (Simmons) Hansen of Dresden. Donna was one of ten children. She graduated High School in 1960 after attending Penn Yan Academy.
Following High School, Donna worked at Texas Instruments in Rochester, then attended the Continental School of Beauty in Elmira, and she worked as a beautician for many years. In 1967, she married Gerald W. Austin and was blessed with daughter Gwen in 1968. Donna also worked for Pennsylvania House Furniture on the production line making beautiful furniture in the Penn Yan plant. Donna became a teacher’s aide and worked for both Penn Yan Middle School and Penn Yan Academy where she retired after many years.
After retirement, she moved to Florida to be closer to her daughter’s family, including her two precious granddaughters.
Donna is preceded in death by her parents, Nina and Borge Hansen of Dresden; her sister, Beverly (David) Schreiber of Penn Yan; brother, Nelson Hansen of Penn Yan; brother, Gary Hansen of Dresden; brother, Roland ‘Bud’ (Patricia) Hansen of Dresden; sister, Elaine (Angelo) Cardinale of Geneva; and brother, David “Hoppy” Hansen of Luray, Va.
She is survived by her daughter, Gwen and son-in-law Bruce Waite, of Melrose, Fla. and her pride and joy, granddaughters Hannah and Dakota Waite; sister Sandra (Rowley) Hayner of Penn Yan; sister Faye Finnigan of Penn Yan; brother Gordon (Jean) Hansen of Chuluota, Fla and many wonderful cousins, nieces and nephews.
