John A. Hart, 76, of Penn Yan passed away unexpectedly from an unfortunate construction accident Tuesday, November 6, 2018.

A memorial service was held at the Townsend-Wood Funeral Chapel Wednesday, Nov. 14.

John was born in Seneca Falls Sept. 16, 1942, the son of the late Aleen (Deming) and John E. Hart. John graduated from Mynderse Academy in Seneca Falls Class of 1960. He earned his Associates Degree in Criminal Justice from Auburn Community College. He had worked for Ithaca Gun and was a manager for Truck Stops of America. John was a hard-working entrepreneur, owning and operating several businesses, including Save-A-Lot stores, Mr. Donut stores in the Ithaca area and Pick-A-Flick Video stores including the one in Penn Yan, as well as Mr. Video stores.

John is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Marsha A. (Halloran) Hart of Penn Yan, children, Lynn (Rick McKane) Ryan, Laurie (Jamie Condes) Hart, John Hart Jr., Jeffrey (Amy Nicholson) Hart, and Michele Anthony (Tyler) Dunlap; grandchildren, Chrissy (Rob) Stearns, Matt, Nick and Danny Ryan, Stacey (Doug Devall) Schram, Britney Schram, Sheri (Adam) Andrews, Missy (Brian) Hulme, Hunter John Hart, and Makenzie, Broc, and Justin Dunlap; Great Grandchildren, Carter and Conner Ryan, Peyton Demaio, Bentley Devall, Adlyn Scozda, Brayden Scozda, Collin and Landon Andrews, Annie Hulme, and great-granddaughter due to arrive in December. In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by his brother, Ray Hart; sister, Karen Davis; maternal grandparents, Raymond and Celia Whitehead Deming and paternal grandparents Thomas Hart and Cora (Halsey) Hart Freeman.
