Ronald D. Kirk of Penn Yan and Philadelphia, Pa. passed away into God’s loving care Thursday, January 17, 2019. He was 68 years old.

“Ron” as he was affectionately known by his family and friends, was born on June 25, 1950 in Philadelphia and raised by his step-father and mother, James C. and Joan F. (nee Pitts) Sweeney.

After graduating from high school, Ron served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and was stationed in Germany. After his service in the military, Ron then served as a police officer for the Philadelphia Police Department. After his retirement from the police department, Ron became an organic soybean farmer in Penn Yan, where he turned his passion of farming into a business. In his free time, Ron enjoyed woodworking, cooking, and was an avid skier and photographer.

Ron is survived by his loving daughters, Karla Ann Kirk and Carri Lynn Kirk, as well as his grandchildren Aubree Kirk, Kaige Kirk, and Leia Kirk. He is also survived by his siblings Paul Kirk, Joan Everett, Timothy Everett (Marianne), Craig Sweeney (Lauren), Dianne Sweeney, James A. Sweeney (Claire), Kathryn Ewing (Kevin), and Dorothy Sweeney. He was the loving companion to Carol McCrossen.

Relatives and friends are invited to Ron’s Life Celebration from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 26 at John F. Givnish of Academy Rd., 10975 Academy Rd. Philadelphia, Pa., followed by his memorial service at 11 a.m. Interment will be held privately.
