Canandaigua — Martha “Marty” (Armstrong) Puhak, 75, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, April 8,2020. She is sure to have gone into the arms of her savior, Jesus Christ.

Marty was born in Rockland, Maine while her father was serving in the U.S. Navy. She grew up in Bluff Point, and graduated from Penn Yan Academy, class of 1962. Marty then attended and graduated from Freeman Business School in Geneva.

She was trained as a medical records transcriptionist and worked in several hospitals and offices in the Seneca Falls and Waterloo area, during her career.

After her marriage to Peter Puhak, she devoted her life to assisting and supporting his ministry.

Marty was a member of the Canandaigua YMCA for 10 years and acted as the “unofficial social planner” for her aqua-tones swim class. She loved to play cards and board games and played in several groups. For the last four years, Marty and Peter were members of the New Covenant Baptist Church of Canandaigua. A highlight of her life was her baptism in Canandaigua Lake Aug. 13, 2017.

Marty is survived by her husband, Peter G. Puhak; five daughters, Michelle and Stephanie Cleere, Lydia Puhak Fortlage, Cindy Puhak Ortiz, and Pamela Puhak Sisto; three grandchildren, Camille, Shayne, and Adam; and three siblings, John Samuel Armstrong, Debborah Nanuseski and Sara Power.

She was predeceased by her brother, James Armstrong.

A memorial service will be held at a later date and time to be announced.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to New Covenant Baptist Church, 4317 Co. Rd. 46, Canandaigua, N.Y. 14424.
