Arlene Benedict Hilton

Arlene Benedict Hilton

Arlene Benedict Hilton, 88, loving wife, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on Christmas day of heart failure.

Arlene was born Feb 4, 1932 in Elmira, New York to Ralph and Fern Benedict. She married the love of her life, Arleigh Hilton, of Penn Yan, NY in 1950 and raised four loving children in Penn Yan, Watkins Glen, Pittsford, NY and Lakeland, Florida.

In addition to raising a family, Arlene loved to crochet, read, travel to their home-in-the-woods in upstate NY and play Liverpool rummy, a pastime that she happily shared with her entire extended family and friends.

Arlene is preceded in death by her cherished husband of 67 years, Arleigh Hilton, her brother James Benedict, sisters Jean Morang and June Murphy, her daughter Laurie Hilton DeVries, and grandson Daniel Engel.

Arlene is survived by children, Debra Engel (Michael) of Norman Oklahoma, David Hilton (Cherylee) of Millersburg Michigan, Susan Ramsey of Raleigh North Carolina, granddaughter Christine Walton (Mark) of Houston Texas as well as 7 additional grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

Arlene was the binding that held her family together and provided the laughter, structure, sharp wit and killer instinct, (when playing cards) that drew people together and made lasting memories.

A memorial service celebrating Arlene's life will be scheduled in 2021 at Lakeview Cemetery, Penn Yan, New York.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Alzheimer's Association.
