Michael Christopher Samson

Penn Yan - Michael Christopher Samson passed away on September 18, 2021 at his home in Penn Yan at the age of 63 years. Since early 2017, Michael experienced progressively declining health. While his suffering has mercifully ended, he will be deeply missed by family and friends.

Michael was born November 10, 1957, the sixth of nine children to James and Jane (Christensen) Samson of the Town of Benton in Yates County. He graduated in 1976 from Penn Yan Academy and received a bachelor's degree from Roberts Wesleyan College. Through his teen and adult years, Michael proved to be a genius at auto repair as well as home design and remodeling.

Michael is predeceased by his wife, Katja Jonasson.

Both parents and two siblings, Susan Marash (widower Kenn Marash) and Eric Samson, died previously. He is survived by six siblings: Patricia Israel of Falls Church, Virginia; Deidre Witty (husband Bruce) of Mason Neck, Virginia; James Samson (wife Sonia) of Anchorage, Alaska; Elaine Samson of Madrid, Spain; David Samson (wife Nancy) of White Plains, New York; and Douglas Samson (wife Susan) of Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Michael was a warm and eloquent speaker, story-teller and preacher. His way with words and ease of engaging in long meaningful conversations will be among his most memorable gifts.

He most recently attended St. James Episcopal Church in Hammondsport.

Memorial Service, led by Pastor Kenneth Sisson, will be held Friday, September 24th, at 7:30 PM in the sanctuary of Penn Yan United Methodist Church.

Michael loved his pets, including his collie, Amy, and cat, Lowell. Donations in his name are not expected, but those interested may give to the Humane Society of Yates County at 1216 NY-14A, Penn Yan, NY 14527. Arrangements with Weldon Funeral Home, Penn Yan.
