Margaret Goundry-Sheppard

Penn Yan - 84, "The Auction Lady", of Penn Yan, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, March 22, 2022. She was born in Penn Yan on August 26, 1937 and lived there her entire life. Relatives and friends are invited to the Weldon Funeral Home, 102 East Main St, Penn Yan on Wednesday, March 30, from 6pm-8pm. A funeral service will be held at Weldon Funeral Home on Thursday at 11:00am; followed by burial at Bellona Cemetery. Margaret began working at Hayes Auction Barn in 1961. Purchasing the business in 1972, she was owner, operator, and auctioneer. You could find Margaret every Saturday night on her stage where she sold household goods and just about anything else her customers brought in for sale. As promised, she kept going for as long as she could, until COVID closed the business in 2020. She loved the business and the people. That attitude had served her well for decades and she considered the hundreds of people that attended her auctions as family. Margaret is survived by a brother, Ray Mashewske, her three children, son, William Goundry Jr, daughter Judy Ackart (Leigh), daughter Cindy Fenton and 6 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Margaret was predeceased by her husband Carroll 'Shep" in 2004, parents George and Helen Mashewske; brother George and sister Joyce.
