Geneva 218 Penn Yan 269

The Penn Yan Mustang golf team picked up a win and loss in matches played this week. At Lakeside Country Club in Penn Yan Sept. 18, the Mustangs entertained undefeated Geneva in a Finger Lakes East contest. The Panthers prevailed in this match, defeating hometown Penn Yan 218 – 269. Geneva improves to 9-0 in the league, while Penn Yan fell to 3-6. Penn Yan’s Peter Nicholson shot a 48 to lead Penn Yan.

Penn Yan 265 Midlakes 275

The Mustang’s golf fortunes improved immensely the next afternoon against another Finger Lakes League opponent, Midlakes. Penn Yan defeated the Eagles from Midlakes 265-275 at Lakeside CC to up their season record to 4-6. Peter Nicholson once again was the Orange and Blue’s top performer carding a 47. Teammate Clay Koivuniemi added a 51.

The Penn Yan Mustang volleyball team picked up their first Finger Lakes East League win with a 3-0 shutout win over Geneva Sept. 19 in Geneva. Emily Wunder paced the Mustang spikers win with 8 assists, 10 digs, and 4 aces. Sydney Bloom recorded 9 kills, 16 assists, and 12 digs also for Penn Yan. Adding the Penn Yan winning numbers was Caitlin Wunder with 5 kills and 2 digs while Elissa Callaway delivered 4 service aces. Penn Yan’s overall record now stands at 4-2.

Marcus Whitman 2 Honeoye 1

The Marcus Whitman Wildcat girl’s soccer team picked up a narrow 2-1 victory over Honeoye in Gorham Sept. 19. Whitman’s Emily Thompson and Grace Blankenberg scored the Wildcat goals. Blankenberg and Nichaela Commisson also registered assists in this game. Wildcat goalie Katrina Meyer had a strong game in the nets, recording 15 saves to help author the Wildcat win.

Romulus 3 Dundee 0

In other girl’s soccer action on Tuesday, Romulus shutout Dundee 3-0 in Romulus. Dundee’s Karyanna Rutledge had 19 saves in goal for the Scots.

Mynderse 2 Penn Yan 1

The Penn Yan Mustang boy’s soccer team entertained rival Mynderse Sept. 19 at Mustang Field. The Blue Devils walked off with a narrow 2-1 victory in this Finger Lakes League match. Fabian – Martinez Sanchez scored the lone Mustang goal with an assist from Alex Theismeyer. Austin Lafferty was solid in the nets for the Mustangs, making 4 saves. 

Penn Yan 3 Newark 0

The Mustang boys rebounded Sept. 20 in Newark, defeating the hometown Reds 3-0 in another Finger Lakes East contest. The scoring statistics were not available for this game.

Honeoye 1 Marcus Whitman 0

The Marcus Whitman Wildcat boy’s soccer team picked up a win and a loss this week in high school boy’s soccer action. On Monday in Gorham, Honeoye shutout the hometown Wildcats 1-0 in a Finger Lakes West League contest. Timmy Cornish and Zachary Payne split time in the Wildcat goal, recording 17 and 3 saves respectively. This Bulldogs scored the winning goal on a penalty shot at the 43rd minute of the contest.

Marcus Whitman 2 HAC 1

In Brighton Sept. 20, Whitman defeated HAC 2-1 in overtime. Dominick Morey scored both Whitman goals including the game-winner in the overtime period. Jonathan Donovan added an assist. The wildcat netminders recorded 5 saves in this Finger Lakes West League tilt.

HAC 7 Dundee 0

In other boy’s high school soccer action, the Dundee Scots were shutout twice in FL West League action. On Monday afternoon in Brighton, HAC beat Dundee 7-0.

Bloomfield whitewashed the Scots 11-0 Sept 20.
