Penn Yan 50 Wayland-Cohocton 44
The Penn Yan Mustang boy’s basketball team kicked off their 2017-18 season with a 50-44 victory over Wayland-Cohocton on the road Wednesday night. After trailing 13-12 after the first 8 minutes, the Orange and Blue cagers kicked up their game a notch. The Yates County visitors outscored their Golden Eagle hosts 15-0 in the second quarter and glided to the 6 point win. Way-Co mounted a comeback bid in the final quarter with a series of 3-pointers, but their effort came up short. Penn Yan opens the new campaign with a 1-0 record. They will next face a good Attica team on Tuesday evening in Attica.
Penn Yan senior Desmond Battin led the Mustangs on the scoring sheet with 16 points. Ben Emerson and Connor Fingar added 9 points each. Derrick Rivello chipped in 7 points. Connor Fingar also had a strong game on the boards for the Mustang five.
South Seneca 65 Dundee 19
The Dundee Scot girl’s basketball opened their new season at home against South Seneca Wednesday night. The visitors from across Seneca Lake dominated this Finger Lakes West contest, easily defeating the Scots 65-19. Dundee will travel to Honeoye Dec. 5 for their next game.
The Penn Yan Mustang bowling teams continued their winning ways Nov. 28 against Waterloo at Sunset Bowl in Border City. Both the Mustang boys and girls team came away with 4-0 victories over the hometown Indian teams.

The Mustang girl’s team was paced by Kari Ayers. She rolled a 537 series, including a game-high 190. Emilie Thomas added a 450 series ( 174). Emily Augustine chipped a 426 (157). Penn Yan collected 2175 total pins to Waterloo’s 2007.
Penn Yan boys 4 Waterloo 0
The Penn Yan boy’s team also shutout Waterloo 4-0, amassing 2285 pins to Waterloo’s 2051. Zach Gurba bowled a 528 (188) to lead the Orange and Blue. Cameron Bassage added a 492 (168), while teammate Zack Blauvelt rolled a 490 (185).
The Mustang boys improved to 11-1 while the Penn Yan girl’s up their early season record to 8-4.
Dundee boys 2 Bloomfield 2
The Dundee Scot boy’s bowling team rallied in the 3rd match to gain a 2-2 tie with Bloomfield on Nov. 28 in Bloomfield. They defeated the Bomber in game three and edged their hosts 2503-2485 in total pins to gain the draw. Dundee’s Hunter Murphy rolled a 213 single game to lead the Scots. Jared Hartman added a 2-1 game.

In the girl’s match, Bloomfield shutout Dundee 4-0. They collected 1750 total pins to Dundee’s 1513. Mercedez Roy rolled a 356 series to lead Dundee. Edele Morgan added a 142 single game for Dundee (0-8).
Marcus Whitman boys 4 Newark 0
The Marcus Whitman Wildcat boy’s bowling team shutout Newark 4-0 in Canandaigua Nov. 28. Zach Payne topped the Whitman scoring sheet with a 604 series (234-216). Parker Smith added singles games of 221 and 203. Ian Underwood had a 194 and Logan Sieber a 192. Whitman outscored Newark 2915 pins to 2751.

The Marcus Whitman girl’s team was shutout 4-0 by Newark. Destiny Rast led the Wildcats with a 356 series. Zoelle Payne rolled a 354. Newark collected 2500 total pins to Whitman’s 1730.
