The 2017-18 high school basketball season came to an end last week for the three local high school basketball programs. The winter sports season at Penn Yan, Dundee, and Marcus Whitman is over and the games of spring have started their preparation in earnest. The spring season schedules will commence in late March.
For senior players and athletes, the end of a season carries even more emotion. The bittersweet reality that they have played and performed in the uniform of their school for the last time abruptly sinks in. Experiences that will rapidly become part of their high school years memories.
But for a select, small group of local high school basketball players, there will be one final time they will be able to compete on the hardwood floor as a high school player. On Tuesday evening, March 13, The Finger Lakes Basketball League will feature their "Exceptional Senior All-Star Game." This year's All-Star games will be played at Waterloo High School. The girl's game will start at 5:45 p.m. with the boy's contest slated for approximately 7:15 p.m.
The top cheerleaders from around the league will also perform at this season-ending event. Admission to these games will be $3 at the door. All proceeds will benefit Ronald McDonald House Charities in Rochester. A handful of these players from Tuesday games will be selected to participate at the upcoming Ronald McDonald Exceptional All-Star Games on March 24 at Rush-Henrietta High School in Rochester. Penn Yan Mustang Boy's Basketball Head Coach Marty Gibson has been named on the coaching staff of this upcoming elite high school basketball game.
Tuesday's basketball game will feature several local high school basketball players. In the opening girl's game, Penn Yan's Hannah Keech and Emma Harling will play for the "Blue Team." Also playing for the "Blue Team" will be Emily Thompson and Jordyn Chappelle from the Marcus Whitman Wildcat girl's team.
The nightcap boy's contest will feature Penn Yan's Dylan Stape and Desmond Battin. The Dundee Scots will be represented by Kyle Cratsley. Riley McLoud from the Marcus Whitman Wildcats will also play on the "Blue Team All-Stars."
