The Penn Yan Mustang softball team defeated Midlakes 8-4 on April 21 in Penn Yan. The victory improves Penn Yan’s season mark to 3-1 in the Finger Lakes East League. It was their second win over Midlakes this season. They defeated the Screaming Eagle girls in Myrtle Beach earlier this month. The Mustang softball crew is 3-3 overall this young season. There were no team stats available for the Saturday’s Penn Yan victory.

In other local high school softball action, Romulus defeated Marcus Whitman 20-5 in a shortened 5 inning game played on Saturday in Romulus.

Track & Field

The Marcus Whitman Wildcat boy’s track team scored a team win in Clyde April 18. The Wildcat boy’s defeated teams from Newark, South Seneca/Romulus, and host Clyde/Savannah. Whitman came in first place with 112 points. Clyde-Savannah had 90 points in second place while Newark scored 43 points and South Seneca/Romulus had 14. Individually, Whitman’s Memphis Lohnes won the pole vault and triple jump events. Aidan Royston came in first place in the 800m while teammate Gabe Stash won the 3200. Bryan Best won the 400 m hurdles. The Wildcat 4 x 800m relay team of Royston, Stash, Liam Prendergast, and Alex Lyon captured a first-place finish.

In the girl’s match, Marcus Whitman came in 3rd place with 46 points. South Seneca/Romulus finished in first place with 84 points. Whitman’s Hailey Rossi scored a first-place finish in the 400 m hurdles.
