The Penn Yan Mustang Cross Country teams competed in their first Wayne/Finger Lakes meet Sept. 11 in Geneva. The host Geneva team picked up team wins in both the girl’s and boy’s competition. The Panther girl’s team defeated Penn Yan 26-29. Penn Yan’s Jodie Decker came in first place overall with a time of 20:23. The Geneva boy’s team defeated Penn Yan 19-41. The Orange and Blue boy’s team scored wins over Pal-Mac (22-33) and Bloomfield (24-36).

Dundee at Red Jacket

The Dundee Scots cross country teams competed in a Finger Lakes League meet at Red Jacket High School Sept. 12. The Wayne team came in first place overall defeating the teams from Honeoye, Red Jacket, North Rose-Wolcott, and Dundee. For Dundee, Matt Wood finished in third place. This was his first varsity competition.


Penn Yan 3 Waterloo 0

The Penn Yan Mustang girl’s volleyball team shutout Waterloo 3-0 in a Finger Lakes East match played in Penn Yan Sept. 13. The Orange and Blue scored three straight wins, 25-20, 25-15, and 25-23 to gain the league win. Caitlin Wunder had 17 kills and 20 digs for Penn Yan. Serina Sheradin added 21 assists, 9 digs, and 3 aces.

Pal-Mac 3 Penn Yan 1

In Palmyra Sept. 12, Penn Yan dropped a 3-1 decision to Pal-Mac. Akiya Brewer led Penn Yan with 49 digs. Caitlin Wunder added 22 kills and 26 digs. Serina Sheradin contributed 25 assists and 19 digs.

As the week came to a close, Penn Yan’s season record stands at 4-2 overall and 3-1 in FL East League action.

Bloomfield 3 Dundee 0

The Bloomfield Bomber girl’s volleyball team defeated Dundee 3-0 in Bloomfield Sept. 13. The Dundee girls fall to 0-2 in league play and 0-2 overall. MacKenzie Strait recorded 2 kills, 2 blocks, and 1 ace for Dundee. Alyssa Newell added 1 dig and 1 kill. Sarah Boudinot had 1 dig and 1 kill.


Penn Yan 220 Pal-Mac 235

The Penn Yan Mustang boy’s golf team scored two more FL League wins last week. On Thursday afternoon in Penn Yan, the Mustangs downed Pal-Mac 220-235. Peter Nicholson carded a 41 to pace the Mustang team. Max Broadman came in with a 43.

Penn Yan 232 Pal-Mac 269

The Orange and Blue also scored a 232-269 win over Midlakes at the Clifton Springs Country Club. Peter Nicholson, Max Brodman, and Kevin Smith shot 44’s to lead Penn Yan. Clayton Koivuniemi came in with a 47 and Cameron Bassage added a 52. Penn Yan improves their Finger Lakes East League mark to 5-1 with the wins.

Boy’s Soccer

Geneva 1 Penn Yan 0

The Geneva Panthers scored with 4 minutes remaining on a goal by Mason Rusinko to defeat Penn Yan 1-0 in a Finger Lakes East League contest played in Penn Yan Sept. 12. Mason MacKerchar had a superior effort in goal for Penn Yan, making 10 big saves. The Mustangs fall to0-3 in league action. They are 1-5 overall.

Bloomfield 4 Marcus Whitman 1

The Bloomfield Bomber scored a 4-1 win Over Marcus Whitman in a Finger Lakes West contest played in Gorham Sept. 12. Jordan Lahue scored the lone Wildcat goal with an assist from Caleb McDonough. Zach Payne had 10 saves in goal for the Wildcats.

The Marcus Whitman Wildcat girl’s soccer team shutout Dundee 6-0 in a Finger Lakes West League match played in Dundee on Tuesday afternoon (9/11). Nichaela Commisso scored 2 goals and added an assist for Whitman. Evelyn Lambert also scored 2 goals and had 2 assists. Emily Paddock added 1 goal and 2 assists. Athena Saxton tallied the other Whitman goal. Makayla Selvek had 2 saves in goal for Marcus Whitman. Karyanna Rutledge recorded 13 saves in goal for Dundee.

The Newark Red girl’s soccer team shutout Penn Yan 6-0 in Penn Yan Sept. 13.

Wayne 8 Penn Yan 0

The Mustang girl’s also fell to Wayne 8-0 in Ontario Center Sept. 11. With the losses, Penn Yan falls to 3-3 on the season.

Red Jacket edged Marcus Whitman 2-1 in a Finger Lakes West League contest played in Gorham Sept. 13. Emily Paddock scored the lone Wildcat goal with an assist from Ari Beverly. Makayla Selvek recorded 8 saves in goal for Whitman. Marcus Whitman’s record stands at 5-2.

Naples 5 Dundee 1

The Big Green from Naples defeated Dundee 5-1 in a Finger Lakes West League contest played in Naples Sept. 13. Hailee Empson scored the Dundee goal. Karyanna Rutledge picked up 9 saves in goal for the Scots.

Marcus Whitman 114 Bath 60

The Marcus Whitman Wildcat girl’s swimming team ran their season record to 3-1 with a 114-60 non-league win over Bath in Gorham Sept. 12. Ashley Parsons , Hailey Rossi, and Morgan Smithling picked up double wins in their individual events. Zoey Dean and Amy Smithling also scored wins in their events. The Whitman relay teams also scored 3 team wins.
