After being tied 7-7 at the half, the Keuka College Women’s Lacrosse team outscored Southern Virginia University 7-4 in the second half to defeat the Knights 14-11 March 21.

Keuka College (5-0) was led in goals by Kendall Neuberger (Penn Yan) with four goals. Vanessa Tsarevich (Rochester/Gates Chili) and Madelaine Taylor (Oswego) each recorded a hat trick. Tsarevich added a pair of assists as well to complete a five-point game.

Keuka College pulled ahead first five minutes into the game, but Southern Virginia answered five minutes later to level the match. Midway through the first half, Keuka scored four straight to build a 5-1 lead. However, the home team answered with five straight to take the lead themselves. Kendall Neuberger snapped the run with a goal and added her second to give Keuka College a 7-6 lead with 1:12 left in the half. 22 seconds later, Southern Virginia scored to send the game to halftime tied 7-7.

Vera Freda (Watertown/Lowville Academy) opened the scoring in the second half with a goal, but the Knights had an answer minutes later. The Wolves would not be deterred as Keuka went on a 5-0 run to take control of the game. Over the last 12 minutes of play, Keuka College was outscored 3-1, but Southern Virginia would not be able to overcome the Keuka advantage as the Wolves stayed undefeated with a 14-11 victory.

• Thursday was the first ever meeting between Keuka College and Southern Virginia

• Janelle Thomas (Painted Post, N.Y. / Corning-Painted Post) entered the game in the second half and made eight saves for the Wolves to help Keuka College to the victory

• The Knights were able gain possession from the draw as Southern Virginia had a 17-10 advantage in draw controls

• Kendall Neuberger also provided pressure defense with a career-high tying four caused turnovers. She moved into third on the career list at Keuka College

Up Next for Keuka College: The Wolves return home for three games at the Jephson Community Athletic Complex next week. The Green and Gold start the week on Tuesday as they host Alfred University. Keuka College will then start North Eastern Athletic Conference play as the Wolves host Hilbert College and Medaille College over the weekend.
