After falling in a close, defensive battle last weekend, the Penn Yan boys’ lacrosse team put together two wins, 12-4 against Clarence and 9-6 versus Cazenovia to improve to 2-1 on the young season.
The team faced Clarence April 6 and came away with the eight goal margin of victory. Penn Yan only led 3-2 at the end of the first quarter, but shut them out in the second and third to build a commanding 10-2 lead. Both teams would score two goals in the final quarter. Coach Brian Hobart was pleased with what he saw on both sides of the field.
“The offense continued to gel,” he said. “Defensively we did a very nice job of limiting them many opportunities. We are looking forward to a big three game week ahead.”
Earlier in the week, the Mustangs notched their first victory of the season against Cazenovia.
“(A) nice bounceback win over a team that has been a rival at the state level,” Hobart said. “Our offense flowed much better and we shot the ball much better than in the opening game.”
The team faces Livonia Tuesday, Penfield Central Thursday, and Nichols Saturday. All three games are on the turf at home.
