Penn Yan Girls Tennis team captures 2019 Section V crown with win over #1 seed HAC; Pullens finish well in state tournament

In the class B2 final last Monday, #2 seed Penn Yan defeated #1 seed HAC 4-1 to take the sectional title.

“It was a very close match,” said Coach Nathan Kraemer. “Both teams played hard and it felt like it could have gone either way.’

Molly Pullen lost her first singles match 6-1, 6-0. Claire Pullen won at second singles 6-1, 6-1. Abigail Garvey won in third singles 6-2, 6-0. In doubles, Sydney Moravec and Jayden Hollister won 6-1, 6-4, and Sam Denson and Grace Worth won 6-4, 6-3.

“Claire played the best match I’ve ever seen her play,” Kraemer said. “Abby was unbelievably consistent. Both doubles teams worked well together and took advantage of the opportunities they had to finish points.”
