The 2019-2020 high school basketball season is underway with more scrimmage action in Penn Yan and boys and girls games in Dundee.

The Penn Yan Mustang Boys Varsity season was set to begin Monday, but with school closed due to the weather, their game at Haverling will be re-scheduled. The open their home season Thursday, Dec. 5 at 6:30 p.m. against Rochester Prep. They travel to Vertus High School for a 1:30 p.m. game Dec. 7.

Dundee Varsity Boys Coach Les Miller’s Scotsmen basketball team is young, but he’s excited about the prospects for the season after an early tournament on their home court.

Boys

Dundee 48 Williamson 43

The Scots came back from an early 10 point deficit to take the lead and win 48-43 in their first game, played Nov. 26. Miller says, “Dundee showed a lot of grit and closed it to 2 before the half.”

Blake Machuga led the Scots’s scoring with 16 points. Steven Webster shot 10, and Logan Salvatore and Peyton Boudinot each added 8 points.

Rochester Academy 68 Dundee 58

When Rochester Academy came to town Nov. 30, the Scots found themselves digging out of a deeper hole, going down by 18 at one point. They cut the lead to 7 early in the fourth quarter, but couldn’t keop up the momentum.

Logan Salvatore had 16 points, Cody Salamendra had 12, Steven Webster, 11 and Blake Machuga, 9.

After seeing how the Scots fought back in both games, Miller is encouraged by the potential of the team. “If we can get started out better, we should do pretty well,” he says.

The Dundee Scots were scheduled to host Avoca Tuesday to open the regular season. Wednesday they travel to Hammondsport.

Red Creek 59 Dundee 48

The Dundee Varsity Girls’ Basketball team lost to Red Creek Nov. 30 by a score of 59-48. Mackenzie Strait led the Lady Scots with 16 points and 9 rebounds. Hallie Knapp added 11 points and 12 rebounds, Abby Miller added 9 points and 5 rebounds, and Makenzie Cratsley added 4 points and 12 rebounds
