The Penn Yan girls basketball team is the top seed in Class B2 tournament. Local games began Tuesday and continue Wednesday, Friday and Saturday

With the regular season drawn to a close, 200 teams from across Section V are now preparing for the Section V Sectional Tournaments. 18 sectional champions will be chosen across 18 classifications with the matches determining which teams will represent Section V in the NYSPHSAA tournament in mid-March.


Penn Yan: The boys’ team will be competing in Class B2. Earning a 4th place berth, the Mustangs will skip Round 1 and take on the winner of a match between Bath-Haverling and Dansville on Feb. 29.


The girls’ team will also compete in Class B2. Earning the 1st place berth, Penn Yan skips the first round and faces the winner of a match between North Rose-Wolcott and Rochester Prep. on Feb. 28.


Dundee: The Dundee boys will be competing in Class C3. With a 5th place berth, Dundee squares off against 12th place Marion on Feb. 25.


The Lady Scots are competing in Class C2. Their 7th place berth earns them a match against 10th place Bolivar-Richburg on Feb. 26.


Marcus Whitman: The Whitman boys will be competing in Class C1. With a 2nd place berth, the Wildcats will face the winner of a match between Sodus and Addison Feb. 28.


The Whitman girls are also competing in Class C1. With a 5th place berth, the Lady Wildcats will be going up against 12th place Bloomfield on Feb. 26.
