The house immediately south of the Best Western Inn at the corner of Lake and Brown Streets was demolished last week to make room for the hotel’s expansion.

The Best Western Vineyard Inn & Suites has announced the expansion of the Penn Yan hotel for early spring 2011.

According to the announcment released by the Best Western early this week, the expansion project will include 14 new rooms — six suites and eight guest rooms.

Amy Banach, general manager, explains, “We’re expanding because the response to the hotel, which has won design awards for its Finger Lakes décor, has been overwhelming. More rooms translates into more guests having fun. It’s a nice equation.”

The announcement says the expansion will also include a state-of-the-art fitness facility, a new guest laundry service that offers added convenience to guests while they travel, enlarged indoor pool area, expansion of the current breakfast area that will feature Finger Lakes inspired food, a new exterior patio with Pergola where guests can sit, relax and enjoy the Finger Lakes atmosphere, and additional guest parking.

“We have been eager to break ground,” says Banach. “It has been a phenomenal year for the hotel. We were awarded The Director’s Award early this year for outstanding quality and have earned the Triple A Diamond Rating.‚“

In addition, the Vineyard Inn & Suites was just awarded the “Best Western Plus” designation. The ‚“Plus” designation is given to those hotels which provide customers with an upscale experience. They have upgraded enhancements and a crisp, well-appointed style. Furnishings are of high quality and all areas of the hotel support guest’s need for comfort while they are away from home.

The guest amenities are also more abundant; in both the guest rooms and common areas.

“Our guests truly enjoy staying in the heart of the Finger Lakes where they can be close to the wineries and lakes, and we’re excited about the new designations and awards we’ve received,” says Banach.
