Penn Yan fitness center open 24 hours
If your New Year's resolutions include getting in shape or just working out more, there's a new facility in Penn Yan that will make it easier to keep that resolution.
Snap Fitness opened its newest 24-hour fitness club in Penn Yan Dec. 10 and staff are welcoming new members every day.
Club Manager Brenda Hill, who has been in the personal training field for several years, also manages the Snap Fitness site in Corning, She and other personal trainers are available to help new club members learn the equipment and establish a workout plan.
Members pay a monthly fee without a long term contract to get a swipe card that permits entry to the club, and any other club around the world, anytime — night or day.
The club features a full line of cardio and strength training equipment, including some state-of-the-art machines.
One of the treadmills features a video screen the projects scenery from nature trails and parks around the country. Club member Dustin Kraus of Branchport, who was working on several pieces of equipment on opening day, says he just joined. "It's nice to have a gym so close," he said. Each member receives two free sessions with a personal trainer. The first is a basic training on eight machines that will provide a total body workout. The second session is an individualized one on one session with the trainer to fine tune a workout plan.
Beyond that, personal trainers will be available through a training package.
Members will also be able to create their own personal web page where they can plan their training sessions, track progress, plan meals and complete wellness assessments.
Hill says another high-tech feature will be launched in a couple of weeks. A device similar to a pedometer will measure your normal activity level over a week's time. Armed with that data, establishing and tracking a workable fitness plan will be even easier.
The Penn Yan club also has a stand-up tanning booth and a shower.
The Penn Yan Club is located at 203 Lake St., Penn Yan.
