Starting its 24th year in business, The Windmill Farm & Craft Market opens for the season on Saturday, April 30.

Boasting about 175 unique shops, there will be some new businesses at the market including two new potters, one giving demonstrations, a fresh meat market and Bath Fitter.

“Our seamless, remodeled bath and showers are guaranteed for life,” said Venessa Haley who will be manning the market showroom. “We even do silicone touchups for free.” They are more that a tub over tub business as they are the only New York State company that relines claw foot bath tubs. They also can make showers and tubs wheelchair accessible. They are located in Building #2.

Winter was a busy time for The Windmill according to Market Manager Lauren Welch. They bought new umbrellas, eight new picnic tables, refurbished some of the older tables, built three new buildings and remulched some of the wooded areas. Welch also mentioned that the Windtamer windmill should be taller and he was working with the company to access the output using a meter.

Both Facebook and the website were receiving a lot of activity and they would again publish the annual Windmill Shopper magazine for distribution and as handouts.

President Ron Towner said that there will be a new historical display using photos, a DVD and other items to show the story of how the market began.

The market has an aggressive advertising campaign which includes Time Warner TV commercials across New York State including Rochester, the Southern Tier, Buffalo, Syracuse and other areas. Much of the marketing is done through the membership with Finger Lakes Tourism Alliance, the oldest tourist promotion agency in the US which began in 1919.

The Windmill opened its door in June of 1987 and continues to grow in popularity each year. Musical groups and non-profits are on hand most days and the two car shows are on the calendar of events for May 21 and Oct. 8. The Windmill is open each Sat. from 8 to 4:30 right through Dec. 10. Other market days include Memorial Day, July 4 and Labor Day. More information can be found on the website at
