The culvert near Camp Good Days south of Branchport has been replaced, and state Rte. 54A is scheduled to reopen by Memorial Day

The wall and culvert repair project on state Rte. 54A in Jerusalem just south of Branchport near Camp Good Days, is scheduled to be completed by Memorial Day, according to Dorothy Nisbet, the NYSDOT Region 6 Public Information Officer in Hornell. She says Blades Construction is working hard at meeting that deadline, "but it's tight, especially with the weather forecast for this week." If necessary, Blades will have crews work on Saturdays, and may open the road before it is complete as a single lane with flagmen until final work is done.

The Yates County portion of this project is just part of a seven-site road improvement contract across three counties with an "Estimated Substantial Completion Date" of June 30, 2014. This is the day the public (including vehicles and pedestrians) has full and unrestricted use and benefit of the facilities both from the operational and safety standpoint.

In addition to the work in Jerusalem, the project includes wall and culvert repairs on state Rte. 54A and the towns of Pultney in Steuben County, state Rte. 248 in the town of Independence, and state Rte. 417 in the town of Scio, in Allegany County. The contract was awarded to Blades for $2,317,000, and is listed as both on time and on budget.
