Keuka Spring Vineyards 2012 Riesling, the 2013 Governor's Cup winner

Keuka Spring Vineyards will host a celebration of its Governor's Cup Award. The winery is planning a sunset dinner party on Friday, Aug. 30, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $25 per person and include appetizers, dinner, dessert, and a glass of wine, door prizes, and live music. Tickets can be purchased from the winery until Tuesday, Aug. 27 by calling 315-536-3147. The party was first opened to wine club members and now is open, space allowing, to the public.

"We were thrilled to receive this award and looking forward to celebrating," says Judy Wiltberger, owner. "There is something special about this competition, about this award, and we can't wait to share this with our loyal and new customers." The Governor's Cup is awarded for the Best in Show in the annual New York Wine & Food Classic Competition. Out of 875 entries, the Keuka Spring Vineyards' 2012 Riesling was also voted Best White Wine, Best Overall Riesling, and Best Medium Dry Riesling. Gov. Cuomo personally presented the award to Len, Judy, and Jeanne Wiltberger and August Deimel at the end of the Classic Competition awards dinner after his Finger Lakes winery tour on Aug. 13.

"The Finger Lakes region produces excellent Rieslings, and 2012 was an outstanding growing season for Riesling," states August Deimel, Keuka Spring Vineyards' winemaker, who made the award-winning wine. "We are excited to have been so competitive and chosen among the other outstanding New York Rieslings as the top wine."

In addition, the winery received Best Limited Production for its Dry Rose and Best Gewurztraminer for its 2012 Gewurztraminer in the competition. The 2012 Semi Sweet Riesling and 2012 Humphreys Riesling were also awarded Gold Medals. Keuka Spring Vineyards' Celebrate and 2012 Vignoles were also awarded Double Gold Medals at the New York State Fair Competition in the summer.

Keuka Spring Vineyards is located at 243 Route 54, just outside of Penn Yan on the east side of Keuka Lake. Owners Len and Judy Wiltberger have been committed to producing premium wines since they founded the winery in 1985. The tasting room and food and gift shop is open daily. The winery will also feature live music on August 31, the day after the celebration on August 30.
