NY Wine & Grape Foundation: Fox Run Winery honored at banquet

The New York Wine & Grape Foundation said a big “Thank you” to several individuals and businesses at its annual Unity Banquet Feb. 26 at the Rochester Institute of Technology Conference Center.

The Court of Honor includes Fox Run Vineyards of Penn Yan, which received the Winery Award.

The Winery Award recognizes wineries which have advanced the widespread recognition and quality reputation of New York wines. Co-owned by Scott and Ruth Osborn, and celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2015, Fox Run has long been known for the consistently high quality of its wines. Wine & Grape Foundation President JimTrezise says Fox Run is an excellent model of collaboration in terms of production and industry advancement. Winemaker Peter Bell works with other winemakers and Scott Osborn serves as volunteer president of two separate organizations created to protect and advance industry interests.

Other honors were:

• Unity Award: Phyllis Feder, owner of Clinton Vineyards in the Hudson Valley, who was Chair of the Board of the New York Wine & Grape Foundation for three years.

• Industry Award: Mr. Dennis Rosen, outgoing Chairman of the New York State Liquor Authority.

• Grower Award:  Michael Migliore of Whitecliff Vineyard in the Hudson Valley.

• Research Award: Dr. Brad Rickard of Cornell University.

• Restaurant Award: Tom Schaudel of Long Island, chef/owner of several popular Long Island restaurants—Jewel, A Mano, A Lure, Cool Fish, Petulant Wino.

• Distributor Award: Dina Opici, owner of Opici Family Distributors which has the largest selection of New York wines of any distributor.

• Consumer Award: Judi Betts of Long Island, who in addition to being an avid appreciator of wine is a passionate promoter of Long Island and New York wines.
