Local musician Dylan Kennedy is bringing a new event to the area this summer with the Keuka Lake Music Festival which begins with a gala event at Lakeside Country Club from 6 to 8 p.m. July 15 and continues with four concerts in August.

The Summer Gala includes a buffet-style dinner and string quartet performance with each piece of music paired with a Rooster Hill wine. Kennedy, with members of the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, will perform string quartets by Haydn and Borodin.

The other concerts will be held from Aug. 10 to 20 at Keuka College’s Norton Chapel. Those performances will begin at 7:30 p.m., and will be preceded by a pre-concert chat at 7 p.m. Tickets for these performances are $20, and free for students and children.

Artists performing at Norton Chapel are:

• Aug. 10: Ivan Zenaty, violin and Dmitri Vorobiev, piano performing Dvorák, Grieg, Tchaikovsky, deFalla and Ravel.

• Aug. 17: Brannon Cho & Friends (Kennedy and Mason Yu, violins; Jenni Seo, viola; Brannon Cho, cello; Anna Maimine & Rixiang Huang, piano) performing Bach, Mendelssohn, and Dvorák.

• Aug. 19: Sandra Shapiro Recital: The pianist explores cultural heritage and influences with Liadov, Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff and Shubert.

• Aug. 20: Summer Finale with Yu and Kennedy, violin; Seo, viola; Cho, cello; and Shapiro, piano performing Mozart, Prokofiev; and Schumann.

“One of my main goals in putting together the first season of the festival was to invite artists and create programs that I would go out of my way to see even if I wasn’t involved. I feel that I have been successful in surpassing that threshold, which is not very low considering the number of high-quality performances I have had the privilege of seeing in my life,” says Kennedy, who will be performing in all but two of this summer’s shows.

The Keuka Lake Music Festival is dedicated to bringing the highest quality classical music to the Finger Lakes region, featuring rising stars performing alongside firmly established musicians. The 2017 featured artists include international prizewinners as well as faculty, alumni, and current students from the top conservatories in the world.

Ivan Zenaty and Sandra Shapiro, who will each be performing a solo recital, are Kennedy’s two closest mentors from his time at the Cleveland Institute of Music. Many of the musicians are prizewinners at the top international competitions in the world, including award-winning cellist Brannon Cho.

Tickets for the Summer Gala cost $60, and must be purchased in advance at Long’s Cards and Books, Lakeside Country Club, Rooster Hill Winery, and online at
