Arts Center rings in the holidays with gift ideas
The leaves are down and the ground is turning frosty on a more regular basis, signaling the push towards winter, snow and the holidays! The Arts Center of Yates County has a wide range of creative, affordable, and one of a kind gift ideas showcased during the annual “Celebrations” exhibit, open from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 26.
In addition to one-of-a-kind paintings, prints of local scenes, and fine art photography created by local artists, this year’s Celebrations exhibit will include fun and seasonally painted gourds and beaded wine-stoppers by Tairi Detwiler; unique animal-inspired hand embroidered wall hangings and clothing by Shanna Fiorucci, ceramic ornaments, wall hangings and dinnerware by Kay Howard, Mandy Ranck, and Sally Thomas, and Dan LoFurno’s whimsical metal sculptures. Add to that hand blown glass by Jeremiah Unterman and the Applebaums, wooden art puzzles created by Peachie Originals, miniature ornaments created by the Penn Yan Art Guild, original holiday cards and more, and the Arts Center begins to take on the aspect of Santa’s workshop! Exhibit chair Marnie Lersch says “Spend your holidays supporting local artists and craftspeople by finding unique, one-of-a-kind artwork created to be the perfect gift for someone special in your life.”
While the Celebrations show will be up for traditional “Black Friday” and “Small Business Saturday” shoppers, the formal exhibit opening will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 26 and will include opportunities to talk with artists, hors-d'oeuvres, wine tasting and a solid dose of holiday fun. The opening for Celebrations is free and open to the public.
The Arts Center of Yates County is located at 127 Main St. in Penn Yan and is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Look for special holiday hours, including during StarShine in downtown Penn Yan. Ask about our personalized holiday cards.
