A Valentine to L. Caroline Underwood
The Yates County History Center will remember L. Caroline Underwood – a woman who made a difference in the history of Yates County on Valentine's Day at 1 p.m.
The Center itself is a part of her legacy, since Ms. Underwood left a trust to establish a history museum and donated antiques that remain at the core of the collection.
Generations of Yates County children were influenced by Ms. Underwood, who was a dedicated teacher in local schools from 1926 to 1972. She was an avid shopper and traveler, bringing home everything from menus to porcelain pigs, and she still found time for her hobbies as photographer and gardener.
Actress Patty Larzelere, known for her re-creations of local characters during the annual Lake View cemetery walk, will be channeling Ms. Underwood at Saturday’s event.
Attorney Phil Bailey and Sheriff Ron Spike are expected to be on hand to share their recollections, and audience members will be encouraged to offer their own memories. A reception will follow.
When: 1 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 14.
Where: L. Caroline Underwood Museum, 107 Chapel St., Penn Yan.
Admission: $5, no charge for students.
