Saturday, June 17 at 7:30 p.m., the 2017 Finger Lakes Chamber Music Festival opens its season at Hunt Country Vineyards in Branchport, a tradition that began 15 years ago when Joyce Hunt and Richard Auldon Clark founded the Festival.

In this opening program, violist, and now Festival music director Clark performs with the Abel Family String Quartet. This is a rare ensemble in which mother, father, son and daughter perform together. Imagine the years to develop this group. The program includes Vaughan Williams’s “Phantasy Quintet,” Mozart’s “String Quintet in G minor;” a Mendelssohn string quartet, and R. A. Clark’s “Life is Suite.”

The musical feast to follow in this year’s festival includes a celebration of generations of outstanding (too often less-known) works by female composers. Another program features German masters, and the Independence Weekend concert again honors America’s own great talents. Added to popular local concert venues will be a first concert at Elmira’s Clemens Center.

All sites are wheelchair accessible and include a reception. Musicians are happy to meet guests following concerts.

In addition to ticketed programs, the Festival reaches a wider audience at free concerts like the annual Concert on the Courthouse Lawn in Penn Yan and master classes and concerts in area schools, camps, and senior residences.

Adult tickets to Finger Lakes Chamber Music Festival concerts are $25 each; students are free.

There is also a package special of six tickets for the price of five. These may be used at any concert and in any combination.

Though tickets are usually available at the door, advance purchase is recommended. Tickets may be ordered online at FingerLakes-Music.org (Click on Instant Seats) or by check sent to FLCMF, PO Box 605, Penn Yan, N.Y. 14527. A message also may be left at 315-536- 0383.
