Pirate Toy Fund booty arrives in Penn Yan for Christmas

A truck loaded with over 1,000 toys collected in the Rochester area by The Pirate Toy Fund was unloaded by volunteers from Penn Yan Academy.

The floods that hit Penn Yan in May did more damage than anyone expected, even to the point of threatening Christmas cheer. In their storage below The Once Again Shoppe, Christmas for the Needy lost tens of thousands of dollars worth of toys meant to go to children this holiday season, threatening to make what was an unhappy summer go on to be an unhappy holiday season.

Gary the Happy Pirate, a Rochester area children’s entertainer and philanthropist, saw that devastation on WHEC channel 10 in Rochester. He and his Pirate Toy Fund charity partnered with the station to collect over 1,000 toys for the already devastated families of Penn Yan in the hopes of bringing some joy back for their children this Christmas.

Thanks to WHEC viewers, more than 1,000 toys were donated in the greater Rochester area, and were delivered last Wednesday by Corrigan Moving Systems to Penn Yan, where student and faculty volunteers from Penn Yan Academy offloaded into Christmas for the Needy’s now clean and dry storage.

Anyone else wishing to help replace toys may send a tax deductible check made payable to Yates County Christmas For The Needy, P.O. Box 145, Penn Yan, NY 14527.
