Engel Heggie, President of the Board of Directors of Yates Concert Series, Inc. announced recently that a grant has been received from the James P. Gordon Charitable Trust  to help with expenses of the 2011 season of Concerts on the Courthouse Lawn. The concerts, representing the 16th season, will start on June 29 and end on Aug. 17.

These concerts are  presented with the support over many years of area businesses, individual audience members, and foundations such as the James P. Gordon Charitable Trust.

Musical programs will be presented each Wednesday evening starting at 6:30 p.m. on the dates mentioned above, with performers usually chosen from communities in the Finger Lakes area.

The schedule will be finalized in February 2011.  The concerts are free for audience members, though the “hat” is passed during intermission, and the approximately 220 audience members each week are asked to be generous.

Yates Concert Series, Inc. is a registered New York State 501c(3) not-for-profit organization.  These performances are offered to help enhance the quality of life in our community, giving residents and visitors an opportunity to enjoy live performances, without cost, in an attractive outdoor setting on the lawn of the historic Yates County Courthouse.

Refreshments are served by various community volunteer groups during intermission, and the First Baptist Church serves a light supper for a small charge before each concert.
