Maple Weekend is the perfect opportunity to become a part of the springtime fun of making maple syrup. Sponsored by the NYS Maple Producers, Saturday and Sunday, March 19 and 20 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. has been designated this year’s Maple Weekend.

The Loomis Barn Sugar House is proud to participate again in this statewide open house.

Free of charge, this is a family oriented event that offers something for every generation. Tour the warm, steamy, fragrant sugar house where 40 gallons of watery sap is boiled down to just one gallon of pure golden syrup.

Enjoy a hayride to the sugar bush to see the tapped maple trees.  Explore the sometimes simple and sometimes complicated machinery that is used in this basic food production.  Most importantly meet and talk face to face with the people who undertake the huge task of making maple syrup and other maple products.

As an added treat, the Rushville firemen will host an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. both days inside their firehouse on Railroad Avenue in Rushville.  Enjoy pancakes topped with fresh maple syrup for breakfast or lunch.

There will be wagon rides to the woods, baby farm animals (weather permitting) food samples, maple cotton candy and activities for the kids. Saturday will feature a sheep shearing demonstration and on Sunday, back by popular demand. another woodsman demonstration.  Dress warmly, wear boots and plan on asking lots of questions.
