1  The Penn Yan Village Christmas Festival will be held for the 27th time this Friday, Dec. 2, and all the fun will happen in a new location — on the historic Courthouse lawn at the corner of Court and Main Streets. There will be plenty of places to step inside to warm up: the Baptist Church, Presbyterian Church and the Penn Yan Public Library, for starters.

2 The fun begins at 5:30 p.m. when a number of community musical groups begin performances on the StarShine Holiday stage and in the Sanctuary of the First Baptist Church.

3 Non-profit clubs and organizations from all over the county will be on hand with baked goods, decorations, hot drinks and cheer. The Presbyterian Church will offer hearty soups and warm drinks too.

4 ?Kris Kringle will make a stop at StarShine, so little ones can visit and deliver their own Christmas letters and wishes. Then stop by the Baptist Church to attend Elf School, where they will be entertained with cookie decorating, face painting and a lesson in reindeer food.

5 The highlight of the evening will be the crowning of Miss Penn Yan 2012, which will take place at 8 p.m. on the Holiday Stage. The candidates are profiled on page B1.

And don’t forget, the day begins with the annual Pancake Day to benefit Yates County Habitat for Humanity, held from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and 4:30 to 7 p.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church.

You can still get involved. Call the Yates County Chamber of Commerce at 315-536-3111 to learn how.

The fun continues on Saturday with Christmas in Branchport from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. For details about Saturday’s activities, turn to page A12.
