PY Community Chorus is concert season finale

Staff reports
Penn Yan Community Chorus

The Yates Concert Series, Inc. will hold its grand finale performance for the season on Aug. 15.  Performing in this concert will be the Penn Yan Community Chorus.  This free concert takes place at the Yates County Courthouse located on Main and Court Streets and begins at 6:30 p.m.

The chorus’s director is Peg Patterson, who is well-known for her work with The Pennsylvania-Yankee Theatre Co. and restoration of the Sampson Theatre.  She is also an elementary school music teacher.  The talented Lucinda Loomis is the accompanist.

As a team, Lucinda and Peg bring out the best in all the choir members.  It’s no wonder that this group was invited to perform at Carnegie Hall.  A variety of music is carefully selected for this concert including Broadway, early rock and roll, and old time sing-a-longs.

The choir encompasses a geographical area of Penn Yan and surrounding areas.  Most members have grown up with high school or church choirs, but Peg insists  you need no musical experience to join.

However, this is an avenue for area singers to come together and share his or her gift of musical talent through their common bond of love for vocal music.

Rehearsals are held at the Penn Yan First Baptist Church on Mondays from 7 to 9 p.m.  The next round of rehearsals will begin on the last Monday of September when they will begin work on their Christmas concert to be performed in December.

Bring your own lawn chair and enjoy an enchanting summer evening.

In case of inclement weather, the concert will be held indoors at the neighboring Baptist Church.

Support the Soldiers and Sailors Auxiliary who will provide goodies during the intermission.  The Yates Concert Series Committee is always looking for new members or ideas for future concerts.  If you are interested, contact Barb Stewart at 315-536-8079.
