The Ant and The Grasshopper

Kids can be a part of the orchestra and help retell the ancient fable of the Ant and the Grasshopper at 6 p.m. Aug. 24 at the Penn Yan Public Library. There will be musical instruments to play, dances to learn, and songs to sing. Bring the whole family to join local legends John and Sondra Bromka for an outstanding evening of fun, music, and storytelling! Farm Days

Farm Days will be held Aug 24 (11 a.m. to 6 p.m.) and Aug. 25 (9 a.m. to 6 p.m.) at  Harvest and Artists Market, 8383 Gallagher Rd, Pulteney

Eric Edwards  will discuss sustainable, transparent farming for healthy soil, animals and people Friday at 11 a.m. and Saturday at 2 p.m. Derek Grassman, (  the inventer of an internationally patented vertical axis wind turbine discusses why his windmill starts spinning with just 1 mile/hour winds and produces electricity at just 3 miles/hour and can be roof top mounted. He also elaborates on his business trips recently to China and India. He will speak Friday at 1 p.m. and Saturday at 11 a.m. There will also be hay rides around a chemical free farm with tours of an offgrid cargo container built homestead. In addition there will be face painting and kite making.

There will be lots of local produce and baked goods and artists.

Job Corps Orientation

Job Corps, administered by the U.S. Dept. of Labor, is a free career technical training program for 16 – 24 year olds.  Students can train for careers in automotive, construction, health occupations, culinary, construction and more.  The program includes up to two years education and training, campus housing, meals and other services. There is no cost to eligible students.  High school graduates and non-graduates are invited to apply.  If needed, a student can also get a GED or high school diploma at the same time they train for a career at Job Corps.   Orientation and Application Interviews will be held on Friday, Aug. 24 at 11 a.m. at the Workforce Development Center, 417 Liberty St., Suite 2021, Penn Yan.
