Penn Yan Lions and Leos to hold food drive May 7

Staff reports

Saturday, May 7 all Lions Clubs in New York State are having a nonperishable Food Drive to benefit their local food bank.

The Penn Yan Lions Club with the Leo Club will be collecting nonperishable food and cash donations at TOP’s Market on Liberty Street.  This event will start 10 a.m. and run through 2 p.m. in the parking lot near the entrance to the store.  All donations are welcome.  There are no donations too small.

In May 2010 the Leo Club hosted a nonperishable food drive that was very successful.  Many cases of food were donated to the food bank in addition to $400 in cash donations.

With successful food drives throughout the year, the food bank is able to meet the needs of many of our residents that are less fortunate at any one time. The food bank also prepares bags for the Back Pack Program which benefits many students at PYE and PYMS.  This donation of food helps supplement or make ends meet for many students over a weekend.
