Penn Yan Rotary Club, at 100, thanks community

Sue Andersen, Penn Yan Rotary Club secretary
The Penn Yan Rotary Club asked the community's future generations to help "Spread Peace throughout Penn Yan" by coloring peace signs to be displayed to celebrate Penn Yan Rotary's 100th birthday. Rotary had over 300 young people submit coloring pages from the Penn Yan Elementary and Middle School. Thanks to sponsor Kate Ferguson-Schmidl, Realtor of Keller Williams, 10 random coloring sheets were drawn, one from each grade Pre-K through 8th, and those lucky artists each received a $25 gift card to Longs' Cards & Books. Pictured with Penn Yan Rotary President Stacy Wyant and Asst. Principal Mrs. Tormey are PYE students: Joey, Riley, Emilia, Jace, Issabella, Carly and Kendall. Thank you all for helping us "Spread Peace throughout Penn Yan"

The Penn Yan Rotary Club family extends a heartfelt thank you as we are still in awe by the amazing support our community provides each other every day. We are truly blessed to live in this beautiful part of the world where we can live in peace and spread kindness.

At the June 3 "Bash at the Bines" held to celebrate Penn Yan Rotary's 100th Birthday, Lois Hall was presented the honor of Community Paul Harris Fellow. This is the highest honor a local club bestows in the namesake of Rotary International founder, Paul Harris. It signifies the ultimate level of "Service about Self" which Hall exemplifies in her everyday life. Pictured with Lois and her family (left of center) are Yates County Administrator Nonie Flynn, and Penn Yan Rotarians John Socha, Tom Hunt, and Leon Fontier.

As Penn Yan Rotary began preparing to celebrate a significant milestone — 100 years of "Service above Self" —  it became clear that the community wouldn't be the same without Rotary, and Rotary wouldn't be the same without each and every one of you. Our Gala on April 8 and our events of June 3 and 4 were a great success.

The ballroom of Esperanza Mansion was a fit setting for the Penn Yan Rotary 100th Anniversary Gala.

Many thanks to our gold and silver level sponsors Climbing Bines, Penn Yan Plumbing and Heating, Community Bank, and the Loyal Order of the Moose. We also received generous sponsorships from several local businesses, individuals, and Rotarians alike. Each of them we are so grateful for, whether monetary, a discount, an auction item, or a good luck smile. With your unbelievable support we are able to help our scholarship fund grow as well. Congratulations to this years winners — Keuka Miranda-Wiltberger, Sierra Harrison, and Alaina Smith. We are proud of each of you and know your futures will be bright.

On Saturday, June 4 the Penn Yan Rotary with the help of sponsorships from PY Plumbing and Heating, Community Bank, Climbing Bines, and the Loyal Order of the Moose was able to continue the fun in Downtown Penn Yan. Complete with a Bounce House, Magician, Dunk Booth, Petting Zoo, Face Painter and more it was a great success enjoyed by many. Thank you to the Village of Penn Yan and the Penn Yan Farmers Market for allowing the use of Jacob Street. It was a beautiful day to celebrate Rotary and thank the community for 100 years of support to the local club.

Now on to the next 100 years of Penn Yan Rotary! If service to the community is in your heart, come join us, all are welcome. Several membership options are available.
