The Hope Walk of Yates County is a local, community-based organization dedicated to assisting Yates County residents who suffer from Cancer through research, education, advocacy, and service.

The Hope Walk Organization has recently received a grant from the W.G. McGowan Charitable Fund. The Hope Walk’s mission falls outside of the usual granting areas of the W.G. McGowan Charitable Fund, however, this award was made possible through a limited discretionary grant.

The Hope Walk takes place from noon Aug. 26 to midnight on Aug. 27 at the Yates Community Center fields, 467 North Main St., Penn Yan.

Chairman Dawn Shipman, encourages everyone to join the walk and create a TEAM to raise money for Yates County residents facing the challenge of defeating cancer.

According to Shipman, last year hundreds of people attended the event and over 22 teams participated in Hope Walk raising $33,000 which continues to help many Yates County families facing cancer.

This year the event features themed team booths, gift basket raffles, family games, music with live bands, a variety of food for purchase, dunking booth, guest speakers, luminary walk in memory of those who battled cancer and in honor of those who are still fighting cancer, a special dinner for cancer survivors with their caretakers, and many more fun activities.

To sign up your team for the Hope Walk, please go to the website for forms and information or contact Shipman at 607-283- HOPE (4673).
