Spec. Christopher Scott's family laid a wreath at the base of the flagpole dedicated in his honor.

Memorial Day ceremonies honoring those who had fallen in military service were held Monday in area communities.

In Dundee, a new flagpole in the village's Spring Street Park was dedicated in memory of Spec. Christopher Scott, who died in Afghanistan last September. His family, which had been further shaken by the sudden death of his father in December, laid a wreath at the base of the flag pole as Dundee Mayor Fred Cratsley Jr. commented on what Scott's service meant to the community.

In Dresden, the day's events included comments by Pastor Mark Flandeau, Captain, U.S. Navy (Ret), recitation of the Gettysburg Address by Will Jenkins and a Memorial Day Salute at Evergreen Cemetery.
